De los Vivero Palace

Place where Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon were married.

Av. Ramón y Cajal, 1

47005 - Valladolid

This palace, ordered to be built around 1440 by Don Alonso Pérez de Vivero, Viscount of Altamira and Juan II's accountant, originally with towers on its corners, hosted on October 19, 1469 the marriage of Doña Isabella of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, in the so-called "Sala rica".

Link in which the Holy See had to intervene to validate some betrothals that needed special permission due to the couple's consanguinity relationship.

Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, as a special legate of the Pope, was in charge of bringing the bull of dispensation in 1471.

In 1475 the monarchs bought the palace, ordered the towers and bastions to be demolished, and handed it over to the Chancery, transforming the palatial halls into audience rooms.

The building retains its old Gothic-Mudejar palace structure from the 15th century, in which the Mudejar coffered ceiling in the main room stands out.

It currently houses the Provincial Historical Archive.
