Built at the end of the 15th century as the residence of the Borja family, on the building that housed the city's School of Art and Grammar.

Destined by Rodrigo de Borja to take charge of the family possessions acquired in the kingdom of Valencia, at the end of 1483 his son Pedro Luis disembarked in Valencia, where he began to build the family residence in the capital, in front of the church of San Lorenzo.

From the Gothic palace, a portal with a semicircular arch and the loggia of windows on the top floor are preserved. From the 18th century the complex was half abandoned until it was bought by the Pujals family in the mid-19th century to install a silk factory.

In the last quarter of a century the palace passed into the hands of the Count of Benicarló who adopted the name that has also survived to this day. During the Civil War it was the seat of the Republican government installed in Valencia and today it is the seat of the Valencian Courts.
