Piazza Navona

Alexander VI offered in this scenario the first bullfight that the Romans witnessed.

Piazza Navona is one of the most spectacular and characteristic urban settings of Baroque Rome. The square is delimited by the buildings that were erected on the remains of the old Stadium of Domitian, whose track shape and dimensions are preserved.

The original shape of the current square faithfully imitates the perimeter of the old stadium that Domitian had built in the year 86 after Christ for the practice of athletics and horse races.

Piazza Navona has been the theater for popular festivals, races and walks for centuries.

The Borgias promoted it as the center of the cultural life of the city and Alexander VI offered in this scenario the first bullfight that the Romans witnessed.
