Marfisa d'Este Palace

Marfisa d'Este Palace
Built by Francesco de Este and bequeathed to his daughter Marfisa, a princess who lived here until the end of her days.
An excellent example of a 16th century stately residence, built by Francesco d'Este and bequeathed to his daughter Marfisa, a princess who lived here until she died, refusing to leave Ferrara even when her family moved to Modena.
The mansion, decorated with 15th and 16th century furniture, preserves the period frescoes, partially redone in the 20th century. Among the pieces on display are the marble bust of Duke Ercole I and the sculpture of the Virgin adored by Duke Alfonso I, from the 16th century.
Through what remains of the large garden you reach a frescoed loggia, which was used as a venue for concerts and small shows.
